Strength training has so many benefits for runners. Increasing our strength can help with overall running performance as it can improve any imbalances we may have.
Strengthening our core and overall body can play a significant part in seeing great improvements in our speed, power and running efficiency.
A personal favourite for me is to do single leg exercises as this helps improve any imbalances. As naturally we have one side which seems to be our “good” or “strong” side and one side which is our “weaker” side. Single leg exercise can help correct this overtime. Here we are focusing on each side individually, as opposed to doing bi-lateral exercise where, without realising, we tend to use one side more than the other as the stronger leg will do more of the work. Single leg exercise can help correct this overtime as well as improving our balance and coordination.
